AB 2829: The “LIKES” Act

Long-term Investments for Kids Emotional Support
Groundbreaking Legislation Invests Long Term in Kids’ Emotional Health by
Holding Big Tech & Social Media Accountable for Youth Mental Health Impacts

It is no secret mental health concerns among children and youth have soared in recent years. Young people in California are facing a mental health crisis, with skyrocketing rates of anxiety, depression, and loneliness - mental health challenges that lead to everything from disordered eating to self-harm and even suicide. And yet, too many young people don’t have access to the mental health resources that will aid them.

This is why I’ve introduced AB 2829, the LIKES ACT, which will fund a dramatic expansion in mental health care needed for young people to meet the scale of the crisis we are facing – by holding large tech and social media companies accountable and at no cost to California families.

The Internet’s prevalence and power have changed the dynamics of the national economy in so many ways that requires an updated approach. With a mental health crisis greater than the State has ever seen, California is in dire need of a comprehensive solution and a consistent funding source to remediate the damage that has been inflicted on a generation of young people.

I invite you to join the conversation. Your feedback is critical to addressing the mental health crises facing our youth and families. Please provide your input here:
