September 2024 Newsletter

As the State Legislature has concluded our 2024 business, I am happy to report back to the community on our work, including bills that address every aspect of life in California and respond to existing and emerging needs and challenges. This includes balancing a difficult State Budget – championing our District’s needs -- while continuing to make investments in climate resilience, affordable housing, and public education now and for future generations.

A Busy Summer

The State Legislature is now past the midpoint in the 2024 session and the legislative package I’m advancing on behalf of constituents are working their way through the process from the Assembly and onto the Senate. More on that in my legislative update summary below.

New Session, New Bills

As the State Legislature reconvened for a new session on January 3, 2024, the challenges ahead are substantial, but so is our commitment to addressing the diverse issues facing all Californians.

The State Budget will demand much attention as I and my colleagues work to approve a balanced budget while managing a revenue shortfall. My focus remains on safeguarding the most vulnerable Californians as we allocate resources prudently.

Community Events, Legislative Update and Holiday Resources

Since the conclusion of the legislative session in September I have had the great pleasure of spending my time in the 21st Assembly District attending community events, meeting with local leaders and residents and holding local office hours in numerous communities to hear directly from constituents about their concerns and priorities.

That's a Wrap!

Dear Neighbor,

My first session as a member of the State Legislature is now concluding and it's been a very productive year.

I am happy to report eight of my bills have been passed and await action by the Governor, including bills to take toxic forever chemicals out of menstrual products, expand access to paid family leave and ensure that penalties paid by water quality violators are sent back to the impacted communities most affected by polluted waterways. Mid-Year Updates!

It's finally summer and I am looking forward to the next phase of the legislative session.

Foremost, the Legislature passed the State Budget on June 15, 2023 that addresses the State Budget deficit as detailed in the Governor's recently released May Budget Revision which proposes to close a projected $31.5 billion budget shortfall while protecting key investments in education, health care, housing and homelessness, public safety, public transit and climate action.
