Student Art Contest - Art & Labor: Honoring Our History, Inspiring Our Future

Asm. Papan Student Art Contest

A Student Art Contest Presented by Assemblymember Diane Papan & San Mateo County Supervisor Lisa Gauthier

Calling all middle and high school artists in San Mateo County! Assemblymember Diane Papan and Supervisor Lisa Gauthier are excited to announce a joint student art contest celebrating the vital role of organized labor and unions in our community.

We invite students to submit original, two-dimensional, non-digital works of art that creatively reflect the theme:
"The Role, Presence, and History of Organized Labor in San Mateo County."

From the tireless efforts of union members who built our region’s infrastructure to today’s essential workers fighting for equity and dignity in the workplace, labor has shaped the heart of our communities — and we want to see that story through your eyes.

Winning entries representing both middle and high school students will be considered as separate categories.

Winning Entries Will Receive:
🏆 Commendations and a Display of their artwork from both Assemblymember Diane Papan and Supervisor Lisa Gauthier
🍽️ A private lunch with the Assemblymember and Supervisor
📸 Recognition on official social media channels and official websites

Deadline for Submissions: Friday, August 29, 2025 at 5:00pm

The Student Art Contest is open to students ages 11-18 who reside or attend school in County Supervisor Lisa Gauthier's District.

Start sketching, painting, and imagining now — we can’t wait to see how you bring labor’s legacy to life through your art!
